2024 Final Quarter: Goal Setting and Finishing Big

With 60 odd working days left in 2024, it’s time to wrap up your campaigns, lock in listings, and set goals for 2025.

Whether you were on Team "Strive til '25" or the alternate "Survive til '25", I’m about to be that slightly annoying person in your life who’s here to flag that today’s date (October 1) means the siren for the final quarter of 2024 just went off.

This means:

  • There are just 5 or 6 weeks to wrap up those marketing campaigns and sell everything you’ve listed

  • About the same amount of time to start locking in listings for the post-Australia Day rush…

  • In waaaaaaay less time than that, Mariah Carey will be everywhere (seriously, she is defrosting as we speak)…

Depending on your work schedule (or how long you decide you’re taking off), there’s about 60 working days until Santa’s down the chimney and the second of two annual occurrences of the great agent migration happens*.

And then? Time to set goals for 2025.

Personally speaking, the goal-setting thing is something I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with.

I think reflecting on your achievements is super important because, in the year's rush, we’ve all likely achieved more than we think.

On the flip side, my own "Anti-Hero" thoughts love to creep in—wondering if I’ve done enough, tried hard enough, or if I’m just generally good enough. Cue the soundtrack: "It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, it’s me..." especially when I’ve got my goals staring back at me like some kind of guilt trip: Honestly, it does nothing other than stress me out.

So, I see the whole process of goal setting as a bit of a necessary evil (that’s just me personally), but I would still also be the first person to agree that we need finish lines so we can celebrate our wins appropriately.

The solution - for me anyway - might be that I need someone to make the whole planning thing a bit more fun—like, a lot more fun.

Then, out of nowhere, Tara Christianson (who is super smart and lots of fun) swooped into my DMs with an unexpected gift—a goals reminder that looks like something that I might even enjoy…!

I did this, and the result is pretty cool - so I hope you enjoy it too.

Here is the prompt I used, using one of the Advanced Prompting techniques from the AI Powered Agents Course: the “Ask Questions” method.

I want to imagine what my life would look like after I've achieved all my biggest dreams, and I want you to describe for me a typical day in my life, including how I spend my time, the kind of work I do, the activities I engage in, and the general feeling of my life once I have reached these goals?

Ask me all the questions you need to to come up with something I can be inspired by every morning before I start work.

The result is actually something fun and is something want to read every morning.

Let me know how you go - and as always …

Happy Hunting 🚀

PS *The great agent migration is that glorious twice-a-year phenomenon when our newsroom gets flooded with agents switching jobs. It’s like a bizarre stampede, usually happening in August and January. And now you’re thinking, “August, isn’t that a bit late?” but that is usually thanks to the other migration - the epic July Summer Euro trip. Because nothing makes you rethink your career quite like a summer spent in Mykonos or Paris… amiright? 😉
