The temporary pause on ChatGPT4 with browsing

"When you support small business, you're supporting a dream." - Unknown

While we were OOO at Elite Retreat, there was a bit of news from Open AI in that they temporarily paused the access to Bing on ChatGPT4.

This means a few of the prompts I’ve suggested on this site won’t work until they re-enable it, so today, we’re going to look at a couple of workarounds.

Firstly, why the pause?

The announcement reads:

ChatGPT Browse with Bing is a beta feature (available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers) that allows ChatGPT to search the internet to help answer questions that benefit from recent information. We have learned that the ChatGPT Browse beta can occasionally display content in ways we don't want. For example, if a user specifically asks for a URL's full text, it might inadvertently fulfil this request.

As of July 3, 2023, we’ve disabled the Browse with Bing beta feature out of an abundance of caution while we fix this in order to do right by content owners. We are working to bring the beta back as quickly as possible, and we appreciate your understanding!

From an Elite Agent perspective, I feel quite relieved about this.

If OpenAI were to allow full-text answers from URLs from within ChatGPT, it would seriously harm our ability to earn income from our website (along with all sorts of publishers, small and large).

Google has been skating close to this line for some time now with the snippets it delivers in search results, eliminating the need for users to click on the website the info comes from.

This is a tough one for us smaller publishers to counter, and I hope it doesn’t get to a point where our smaller ‘corner stores’ get completely swallowed up by the larger multinational department stores (if you get the parallel).

One thing I am sure of is your email list is still the one piece of gold you own - so protect it and nurture it like it’s your biggest asset.

But what do you do if you want to analyse a big document?

Today’s tool of the day

The answer is to go back to using ChatGPT4 with plugins, and I believe the best one right now - as of the time of writing - is AskYourPDF.

I’ve chosen to upload our 2022 Christmas Bumper Edition of Extra, which summarises podcasts from Claudio Encina, Matt Lahood, Dr Jason Fox, Jonathan Creek, Brock Fisher, Alice Geddes, Thomas McGlynn, Peter Schravemade and Jodie Stainton. And it was a whopping 62 pages in length.

So:

Step 1: Upload your document to AskYourPDF.

Step 2: Start chatting using ChatGPT 3.5 (You can try it and start chatting to this particular document simply by clicking on this link)

Another alternative is to grab the document number (in this case, a5d9ef03-d023-4b61-b7a2-8b2f9030611a) and head to ChatGPT and use regular version 4 with the ‘Ask your PDF’ plugin enabled to get some great insights.

The prompt would be:

ask your pdf a5d9ef03-d023-4b61-b7a2-8b2f9030611a

ChatGPT will then say something like: Sure, I can help you with that. Could you please provide me with a specific question or information you're looking for in the document with the ID "a5d9ef03-d023-4b61-b7a2-8b2f9030611a"?

I would ask something like:

What are all the prospecting tips from this document?

And here is what ChatGPT4 gives me:

  1. Accountability: As a new agent, have a buddy in your office or your principal or get a coach. (Page 8)

  2. Focus on the Five Pillars: These include lead generation, nurturing, conversion, vendor management, and buyer management. (Page 7)

  3. Building a Database: For new agents, it’s all about building a database, because that creates social currency. The more people you've got in there, the more people who know who you are, what you do, and what your offer is. (Page 8)

  4. Nurturing: Nurturing is critical, so agents should be regularly connecting with those people they bring into their database. (Page 8)

  5. Being a Resource: Be a resource to people. It’s natural that people turn to experts, particularly when the market is shifting. (Page 8)

  6. Building Rapport: Great salespeople are very charming. They make someone feel more important than them. They give people a compliment. At the open home, try and see something that catches your eye about that person that you could make a note of. (Page 10)

  7. Connection: Every successful interaction starts with a connection. You’ve got to connect before you can convince, and before you can convince, you can confirm. And once you can confirm, you can convert. And once you can convert, you can close. (Page 10)

  8. Using Data for Targeted Calls: In the apartment market, you can't really doorknock. Instead, rely on data and use it to make targeted phone calls. (Page 44)

  9. Letterbox Drops and Social Media Presence: Letterbox drops are the next prospecting tool her team relies on, along with a strong social media presence. (Page 44)

Of course, you can then go on and ask for more advice and tips (whether it happens to be from the original document… or not!

If it’s something you are trying to summarise online, File, Print to a PDF and follow the same process.
