Professional proof-reader

An end to the embarrassing typos?

People are asking me all the time if we are using ChatGPT at Elite Agent, and the answer is heck, yes.

If I can get free proofreading in my business, then you’d be crazy not to.

But again, there’s a way to do it with ChatGPT that will get you a better result than just simply “proofread my text”.

Again it’s the quality of your question that will get you a better result.

Today’s Prompt of the Day

Find and correct the typos in this text: [paste text]Please don't change anything just yet, but give me a numbered report letting me know what you would change?

Here’s how this one played out - using an example of the opening paragraph from tomorrow’s edition of The Brief:

Find and correct the typos in this text: You'd be hard-pressed to find someone in Sydney who hasn't heard of the iconic karaoke bar the Pickled Possum. Some of us were fearful the possum 'had its day' pre-pandemic and would just be chalked up to a fun part of the North Shore's history. But fear not, the old Possum has undergone a bit of a facelift in recent times after a local businessman, aptly called 'Possum Bob', gave the Neutral Bay nightspot a makeover. On a roll, he has now snapped up another institution, Leichhardt's Italian Forum, for a cool $11 million. We don't know about you - but knowing the Possum is safe for a bit longer just gives us a fuzzy little Friday feeling! Please don't change anything just yet, but give me a numbered report letting me know what you would change?

And here was ChatGPTs’s response:

  1. "pre-pandemic" should be hyphenated as "pre-pandemic."

  2. "chalked up to" should be "chalked up as."

  3. "bit of a facelift" should have "a" replaced with "some" to become "bit of some facelift."

  4. "Neutral Bay nightspot" should be "Neutral Bay nightspot,"

  5. "Leichhardt's Italian Forum" should have "Leichhardt's" replaced with "Leichhardt's."

  6. "bit longer" should have "bit" removed to become "a little longer."

  7. "fuzzy little Friday feeling" should be "fuzzy Friday feeling."

Corrected Text:

Now, I think our friend ChatGPT is being slightly picky on a few of those but I actually disagree with item 3 and I don’t want that change made.

So my next prompt was:

OK but can you please change #3 back to the way it was?

The response:

Certainly! Here's the corrected passage with the typo reintroduced…

👀

Still, a passive-aggressive bot is better than a typo, right?
